How to Fling

Flinging is the whole joke and the whole skill ceiling. Anyone can latch a chair. Sending a player off the island, through a pirate tower, or into a fridge for the Indiana Jones screenshot is a timing problem. This guide is for Fling This and That combat, not a generic “press F to pay respects” list.

The physics, not the meme

The Grab Line welds you to an unanchored assembly. While you hold, you can drag, spin, and change distance. When you throw, the object inherits camera direction plus the swing you built. When you drop, it dies at your feet. If your “flings” go nowhere, you are dropping. Re-read controls before you buy a pass.

Reach decides who latches first. Default range is shorter than Farther Reach (about 20 versus 30 studs in the original numbering). FTAT advertised coin-bought extra reach in the ATM shop (about 1,000 coins) so a farmer can catch a passer. Confirm the upgrade still exists, then fund it with the incinerator.

A clean throw, step by step

  1. Lock a target who is not already spinning a pallet.
  2. Grab as they enter range — early on mobile because of input delay.
  3. Pull them off their feet so their character is massless enough to swing.
  4. Look at empty sky or ocean, not their face.
  5. Throw. Follow through like a discus, not a tap.
  6. Be ready to re-grab if they bounce off a wall.

Practice on toys first. A refrigerator, a missile crate, a stack of chairs — anything with mass teaches the same release. Then move to players who agreed to a duel in a plot-adjacent field, not a 30-person melee on spawn.

Fighting someone with more reach

You do not auto-lose. Stay inside clutter. Break line of sight behind factory walls, lighthouse stairs, and pirate scaffolds on the map. Close the gap before they get a clean 30-stud angle. Jump-fling and pallet-assisted knock-ons exist because a moving platform changes relative velocity; ride a pallet at them, hop, grab, throw. How to fly is the movement half of that play.

Escape: default latch time is long (on the original it was up to about 12 seconds). Escape Faster compresses that toward four. Without the pass, start the escape mash the instant the line hits you, and drag the attacker into the incinerator door or a plot border where grabs die. Building plots are safe zones — see how to build.

Toys that win fights

Ranked thinking lives on the toys tier list. Combat-relevant families:

  • Heavy props — sofas, pallets, cars: huge throw mass.
  • Missiles / large missile — Oppenheimer badge if you hit a random person on the island (badges).
  • Glue and potions — area denial, not raw yeet.
  • Snowballs — 9th Planet is a size-max badge, but a grown snowball is also a moving wall.

Do not open with the rarest shop item. Open with whatever you can spawn fast after a death.

Gamepasses versus skill

Farther Reach is the only pass that changes the grab equation every fight. Escape Faster is the defensive pair. Multi-color line is a flex. Transferred Fling Things and People passes may already sit on your account — check before you pay. Full ranking: gamepasses.

Players in the first-week comments were right about one thing: FTAT gives a coin path to reach so the game is less “pay 400 Robux or never land a grab.” Use that path. The coin planner exists so you do not spend the path on a unicorn plush.

Chaos events and etiquette

Public shards spawn iname-style events, nukes, and weather that turns a duel into a clip. The embedded experience video is that chaos, not a sterile 1v1 breakdown. Use events as cover, not as an excuse to camp spawn and fling joiners for ten minutes. If you want a lab, use a plot or a tiny server.

Scripts that auto-aim, anti-grab, or “fling all” are listed on the scripts hub because people search for them. They also trip the anti-cheat Brickified advertised as stronger than the original. This guide assumes you are throwing with your own camera.

A 15-minute training set

  • 20 crate throws at a lighthouse.
  • 10 pallet rides into a grab.
  • 5 escapes from a friend.
  • 1 incinerator pull so you can afford the next toy.
  • 0 code websites. The codes page is still empty.

When that set is easy, you are no longer a spawn victim. You are the person the getting started page warned new players about.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Fling This and That on Roblox.

Why do my flings go nowhere?

You are dropping instead of throwing, or you have no swing. Check controls and look at the horizon before release.

Do I need Farther Reach to fight?

It helps, but coin-bought reach and cluttered maps close the gap. Farm with the incinerator before you buy Robux.

How do I escape a grab?

Mash escape immediately. Escape Faster shortens the timer. Drag the attacker into a building plot where grabs break.

Is flinging on mobile possible?

Yes, with delayed grab/drop. Start inputs early and practice on toys before players.
